San Juanico is a small fishing village on the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula — better known to surfers and early adventurers as Scorpion Bay.
For decades, surfers, fishermen, adventurers and those seeking solitude amid the ocean and sun, traveled across battered roads under blazing skies to a patch of paradise called San Juanico. The tiny fishing village sits atop a bluff overlooking one of the world’s great point breaks with waves that fan across the south facing bay like spokes of a wagon wheel.
San Juanico’s out-of-the-way location and few tourist amenities helped it remain a place that rewarded those who want to experience Mexico as Mexico, far removed from trinket shops and tourists. Today, the roads are better than they once were, but getting to San Juanico still requires a spirit of adventure. It’s a place that is as much about the journey as it is the destination. The real Baja is still out there.
Activities
Enjoy all that San Juanico has to offer, in and out of the water. While the surf can be world-class, San Juanico isn’t just for surfers. In addition to the curated activities of our retreat program, there will be ample opportunity for yoga and meditation, visits to local farms, kiteboarding, the longest beach walks of your life, fishing and whale watching excursions, desert treks, birding or just time to disconnect and find peace and harmony.
San Juanico is about tranquility, untouched nature and stepping back in time. We strive to create an experience that slows time, connecting guests with the natural environment, the local community and the ebb and flow of the sea.
Getting There
Our five day retreats are offered in San Juanico, Baja California Sur. Guests arrive by air to the Loreto (LTO) airport. American and Alaskan Airlines offer direct flights from Los Angles, Phoenix and Dallas.
Once on the ground in Loreto, guests continue on to San Juanico via a beautiful three hour shuttle ride. The route treats guests to beautiful views along the Sea of Cortez, over the mountains, through the desert and finally arriving at the San Juanico Surf Society retreat center on the beautiful Pacific coast.
