Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Loreto is an oasis village positioned between the Sea of Cortés and the mountains of the Sierra Giganta. This is the remote location the Jesuits used to start their pilgrimage to evangelize and colonize Baja and Alta California. Loreto is a Pueblo Mágico, hosting a chain of islands making up the Parque Nacional Bahía de Loreto. The island chain was declared a national Park in 1996, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 and a Ramsar Site in 2004. The waters between Loreto and the islands of the national park play host to blue whales, humpbacks, dolphins, sea turtles, plankton, magnificent frigate birds, blue footed boobies, brown pelicans, angel fish, parrot fish, sierra, dorado, rainbow wrasses, puffer fish… and the list goes on.
Activities
Above and beyond the scheduled activities provided by our retreat programs, Loreto offers an array of additional natural and cultural possibilities: Guided hikes to the Canipole Cave Painting, horseback riding in the Sierra Giganta mountains, swimming and snorkeling along the coast or at the islands, exploring Mission San Javier or just relaxing on the central plaza, enjoying live music and feeling the warmth of the Baja sun on your shoulders.
